It’s estimated that more than 80 percent of Americans are experiencing insulin resistance. One can have insulin resistance for up to 20 years before being pre-diabetic. Insulin resistance impacts every organ and is crucial to acute and chronic disease prevention. This course is designed to equip the dental professional to take a more comprehensive look at the root cause of oral and systemic inflammation. The clinician will obtain practical information for chairside implementation.
Course Objectives:
- Identify how periodontal pathogens affect gut health
- Define the bi-directional relationship between insulin resistance, diabetes and periodontal disease
- Review strategies to evaluate systemic inflammation manifesting orally
- Discover oral products to promote symbiosis

Amber Auger, MPH, RDH
Amber Auger, MPH, RDH, is a practicing dental hygienist who specializes in detecting and treating dental dysbiosis conditions. With more than 17 years of experience in the dental industry, she has a passion for guiding hygienists in enhancing their clinical confidence, time and business management, and whole-body, patient-specific periodontal protocols. Amber is the 2019 Sunstar Award of Distinction recipient, a contributor to “RDH Magazine”, featured author for “DentistryIQ”, editor of the “RDH Graduate” newsletter, and the host of #AskAmberRDH. Amber is actively mentoring and educating fellow dental hygienists in their careers and in personal growth through Thrive in the Op® on-demand course curriculum and weekly live coaching sessions.
